All of the photos on this site are my own, taken by me.

With regard to the new (as of summer 2023) name of this site, while looking through some of our family photos, someone remarked that there were not many photos of me.  I replied: "That's because I am the guy behind the camera."

Everything prior to 2000 is analog: either black and white negative or color slide (with one or two exceptions of color negative).  I scanned the images from their original media and in many cases removed dust and scratches in digital post-processing.  That consumed a lot of time and forced me to be more selective than I might otherwise have been.

Everything after 2000 is digital, so the image quality tends to improve as you move forward with (thankfully) no more dust or scratches to deal with.

I hesitated for a while before I began to create black and white digital images.  It seemed somehow odd to take away from a photo something that was there from the outset.  On reflection, however, I feel that, for some images, color is simply a distraction; that the beauty of the image lies not in the how the colors create the forms, but in the forms themselves and that these forms are best viewed in black and white.

In most cases, the photos are just about what came out of the camera, with very little cropping (again, there are a few exceptions).  I tend to be a bit picky (anal?) about level horizons, so straightening them leads to a bit of cropping.  The only alterations have been adjusting the contrast and saturation and, as I mentioned, the removal of dust and scratches.

Finally, all of the images are copies that have been reduced in size for the purposes of publishing here, sometimes quite a lot.
